Sierra Transport, LLC, a part of the Total Transportation Family, began as a family owned business in 1973 as Lutrel Trucking. Sierra Transport has always been about family and works to keep that culture throughout the years. A perfect example of that is Mike Dake, Sierra Transport’s Operation Manager.
Mike came to work for Lutrel Trucking way back in 1980 driving a transfer truck hauling rock and sand from the local rock plant to local ready-mix plants. In the mid-80s, Lutrel Trucking started hauling hazardous waste, and Mike was first in line for this opportunity. In the 90s, Mike worked at the Los Alamitos laboratory in New Mexico, doing all sorts of different projects. He loves to tell stories about being escorted by armed guards or setting off radiation alarms as he would drive through town.
In 2003, a spot opened in the office for a dispatcher, and we could not think of anyone better than Mike Dake for that position. There is nothing that Mike has not done or seen in his many years on the road. If there were a question on where a place is or a particular route to take, all you need to do is ask Mike, because he has been there. Today Mike continues to help with everything from dispatching to training new drivers. In his free time, you can find him riding his Harley to Sturgis N.D every year or hanging out at what he likes to call the liar’s table at the local Harley shop.
