Position Summary

The Safety Monitor Manages the Driver Safety Program. The candidate is responsible for Vehicle Maintenance & Vehicle Technology Software, including Drive Cam Coach, Equipment Inspection Compliance, Omnitracs and Drive Cam Administration, HOS & DVIR Compliance, and In-Service New Equipment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Hardware and Software maintenance
  • Monitor Drive Cam Program daily and review downloaded events daily
  • Maintain & Monitor Drive Cam Cameras Program in all company Tractors Trucks
  • Upkeep all changes additions or removals in Drive Came Software
  • Maintain Tablets including software updates in all Tractor Trucks
  • Vehicle Maintenance Tracking and Compliance
  • Manage New Hire Orientation with all new drivers
  • Monitor hours of Service Records Daily for all drivers and IC's for various locations
  • Conduct & Manage Pre- Trip and Post- Trip Inspections Records
  • Review potential collisions and select whether event was a collision or non-collision
  • Review and Communicate with the Director of Safety any serious unsafe acts or repeat offenders
  • Engage in Safety Coaching best practices or Disciplines
  • Generate monthly reporting to monitor driver performance and track trends
  • Complete Driver New Hire Orientation with all new driver hires
  • Train on Qualcomm operation as and ELD and recording instructions
  • Train on MC2 Tablet operation for Drayage drivers
  • Distribute Instructions for all procedures, including inspector operation of ELD
  • Train Trainer & Trainee on the proper use of Qualcomm
  • Install and Maintain Drive Cam Cameras in all Company Tractors
  • Install and Maintain Tablets in all HLT and Eco Flow Tractors
  • Update software Programs as directed by IT Dept
  • Tractor In-Service
  • Coordinate the installation of Qualcomm and Drive Cam units in all new tractors
  • Assemble and install ELD Binder and place inside cab of the tractor
  • Ensure door decals are installed
  • Place Spill Kit and Accident Photo Pak camera inside the cab of the tractor
  • Ensure Annual Inspection Report is completed and placed inside the cab of the tractor
  • Generate reporting as directed by management

Vehicle Maintenance Tracking and Compliance

  • Maintain Fleet Tracking Spreadsheets for all vehicles including year, make, model, VIN, tire size and GVW
  • Maintain and update latest BIT Inspection and 90-day expiration date

For all California-based Chassis & Trailer Fleets:

  • Maintain and update all inspection dates daily for any inspection reports received within the last 24 hours
  • Review Inspection Reports for BIT & DOT compliance
  • For all California-based Power Fleets
  • Update inspection dates bi-weekly for any inspection reports received in the last 24 hours
  • Review Inspection Reports for BIT and DOT compliance
  • Follow up on any repairs related to inspections
  • Check for compliance with 10-hour, 11-hour, 14-hour, and 60/70-hour rules depending on the operation
  • Review any potential violations, complete Hours of Service Explanation Report
  • Review violation history and discuss progressive discipline course with Dir. of Safety
  • DVIR Pre-Trip and Post-Trip Inspections
  • Post-Trip Inspections in Qualcomm
  • Communicate all out of compliance findings with Director of Safety

Experience & Education Qualifications

  • Prior knowledge utilizing transportation databases and tracking information (Pro-Tread, Lytix, OMNI Tracks or similar systems)
  • Transportation Safety Knowledgeable
  • DOT Rules and Regulations
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Associates or bachelor's degree from a college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience a Plus
  • Commercial Class A Driver's License desired but not required
  • Exemplary Driving Record
  • EHS: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Transportation management systems: 2 years (Preferred)
  • Computer skills: 2 years (Preferred)

Job Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite programs
  • Software Troubleshooting knowledge and background
  • 2-4 years in related similar role
  • Communication skills related to but not limited to telephone, radio dispatch, clerical skills, map skills, Computer skills, spreadsheet, various databases, driver logs.
  • Prior experience in Pre-trip Post-Trip inspections
  • Safety awareness within the Trucking Industry
  • Demonstrated analytical skills with the ability to identify root cause issues and trends
  • Self-Motivated and Excellent communication skills (written & oral)

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Ability to work on a computer anywhere from 3+ hours a day
  • Able to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to drive a company vehicle when needed
