TTSI Takes Delivery of First 8 Clean LNG Trucks

Chapter 2 in our journey to sustainability. Less than a year later, we take delivery of our first clean LNG trucks.

City of Industry, CA -- In August of 2007, Total Transportation Services (TTSI) along with NYK and Target Stores met with the Mayors of Los Angeles and Long Beach to announce a comprehensive plan to convert its Southern California Drayage fleet to Green.

On May 15, 2008 TTSI took delivery of its first eight LNG Kenworth T800 vehicles featuring Westport Innovation's High Pressure Direct Injection (HPDI) technology. These vehicles were made possible through the efforts of Clean Energy and grants provided by the Port of Los Angeles.

"TTSI, as an early adopter of Westport's HPDI technology, is at the forefront of the environmental drive to reduce emissions in the trucking industry," said Mike Gallagher, President and COO of Westport Innovations. "Additionally, TTSI will be able to reduce fuel costs by using an alternative fuel such as liquefied natural gas (LNG), a key decision factor for any fleet owner."

These LNG vehicles will be the first alternative fuel vehicles to go into full time drayage service in the LA/LB Ports. With its commitment to the environment and the help from its Beneficial Cargo Owners, TTSI will continue to quickly convert 100% of its fleet to 2007 emission standards.

Liquid Natural Gas Truck

Westport Innovations' (TSX:WPT) HPDI system for heavy-duty trucks offers class-leading greenhouse gas reductions and power ratings, with compelling operating economics of LNG fueling. Based on the 2008 Cummins ISX diesel engine with cooled EGR,

Westport's LNG version of the engine offers the same horsepower, torque, and fuel efficiency as the base diesel engine it replaces. The Westport direct injection LNG system comprises proprietary LNG fuel tanks, fuel injectors, cryogenic fuel pumps and associated electronic components to facilitate robust performance in demanding operating conditions.

Together with NYK and Target, TTSI was one of the founding members of the Coalition for Responsible Transportation - CRT, a private industry solution committed to the greening of the American Ports.
