Congratulations to Vic La Rosa for receiving the 2021 Domenick Miretti award! This award is conferred annually by the Center for International Trade and Transportation (CITT), and was presented to Vic La Rosa at the Center's State of the Trade and Transportation Industry Town Hall Meeting on May 24, 2022. It was accepted on his behalf by his son. CITT announced that Vic La Rosa had been selected to receive the 2021 Domenick Miretti Award on October 24, 2021.
Vic's Contributions to Sustainability, the Community, and Education
Vic La Rosa's comprehensive background spans all aspects of the transportation industry and specializes in environmental stewardship. He works to shape the impact transportation has on our world. From cleaning the air with near- and zero-emission trucks to building partnerships to get the job done and providing an educational foundation to inspire future generations. He builds communities through sustainability and education and works closely with local, state, and national government agencies, labor, and leading-edge technology firms.
Vic has committed to being a thought leader among logistics providers and has received numerous awards for his leadership and sustainability efforts. The Coalition for Clean Air, one of California's leading environmental organizations, recently recognized Vic as a visionary in helping spur the conversion of diesel trucks to alternative fuels.
According to Mario Cordero, Executive Director of the Port of Long Beach, "Vic is a true industry leader and has set the standard for drayage companies and their commitment to the environment."
Vic believes that "what's good for the environment is good for business." As the co-founder and president of Total Transportation Services (TTSI), he spearheads integrating near- and zero-emission trucks into his fleet and is recognized by the EPA, CARB, South Coast Air Quality Management District, and other leading regulatory agencies as a leading sustainable drayage and logistics provider.
Vic is passionate about education, sponsoring many employees, including top management, through CITT's Global Logistics Professional program. Vic also strongly endorses the training of drivers, driving down the average age from 55 to below 30 and providing a compelling alternative to the standard 9-5 job through standard hours and excellent benefits and pay.

When the CITT Policy and Steering Committee established the Domenick Miretti Award in 2017, they wanted to honor the late Miretti for his passion and dedication to the goods movement industry. The award honors someone who demonstrates one or more of Domenick's qualities, which include helping to foster partnerships along the supply chain, facilitating dialogue among industry participants, showing a long-term dedication to the trade and transportation industry, and earning the respect of a wide variety of stakeholders. This year the award selection committee, comprised of representatives from industry, labor, and education, unanimously chose Vic La Rosa from a strong group of candidates whose qualifications were submitted to CITT as part of an open nomination process.
Domenick Miretti served as the ILWU Liaison for the Port of Long Beach and the Port of Los Angeles, worked as a marine clerk represented by ILWU Local 63, and was a professor of earth science at East Los Angeles College. He always emphasized the importance of collaboration between industry and educational partners for the betterment of the trade and transportation workforce. Miretti notably stated, "We need to bring the university to the docks and the docks to the university." He was a founding member of the CITT Policy and Steering Committee and a driving force behind the establishment of the CITT Town Hall. CITT Executive Director Tom O'Brien says, "I am sure that Domenick would completely agree with the decision to honor Vic La Rosa with this award."
